Bee’s and wasps are one of the most annoying aspects of summertime. The warm summer months mean a lot of fun, plenty of sunshine, and hot weather. More time is spent outdoors and all of that fun comes with a few annoyances. Bee stings aren’t fun, but there is a solution for at home bee control to prevent these pesky insects from stinging.

Today, you can purchase a lot of different bee control sprays and traps at any super store, but these will cost you quite a pretty penny. Some people would prefer to create their own at home using everyday items found in the kitchen or pantry. There are options!

Wasps and bees are some of the worst pests, but also critters that the world needs in order to continue thriving. A single wasp sting can hurt more than anything you’ve experienced before, and will sometimes result in an emergency room visit when left untreated or for those with a severe allergy. Unfortunately, your home can become a nesting ground for various types of wasps, including yellow jackets and mud wasps.

A trap may be the best course of action, especially when you have unwanted pests in your home or on your patio. Just remember, bees and wasps are a beneficial insect, meaning they help your garden to thrive from unwanted pests.

What You Need:

An empty 2-liter soda bottle, duct tape or some packing tape, a bit of cooking oil, a sugary liquid, such as soda or juice, and some wire to hang the trap overhead. All of these ingredients will be combined with the empty soda bottle, which you will cut in half to allow the wasps entrance.

To start, simply cut off the top spout from the bottle and flip it around, taping the piece upside down in the bottle to create a makeshift funnel. This should prevent any wasp from climbing back out of the bottle once they become trapped within.

Upon completing the tape job, poke a few holes in the outer rim of the cut bottle to insert twine or string. Then, carefully pour in 2-3 inches worth of the sweet liquid you have selected. Again, this can be soda pop or a sweet juice. The sweetness and sugar will draw in any wasps or hornets infesting your home. It may seem mean, but the bugs will drown in this concoction before they can escape.
Upon completion, hang the makeshift bug trap somewhere well away from children, pets, and any vulnerable guests you may have to your home. The wasps and hornets will grow attracted to the scent and will fly in that direction.

Those who experience a severe allergy to bee stings will want to be extra cautious, as it is important to remain safe during all summer activities. If these at home bee control tips aren’t enough and you have an infestation, give us a call today.
