We describe spiders as occasional invaders. Often we would not even know they frequent our living space if not for cobwebs we discover in the corners of undisturbed areas. There are two spiders in Arizona we commonly identify as problematic to people, the Arizona brown (recluse) spider and the black widow spider. While all spiders use venom to subdue their prey, the venom from these two spiders can be harmful to people. Black widow spiders are not typically discovered within our living spaces, we find them more commonly in garages, utility closets, and unfinished basements. Arizona brown spiders are commonly found within homes, and appreciate the air conditioning we provide, although highly adaptable outside. If not for these two, it would be easier to argue spiders are beneficial because they also eat insects!

Regular pest maintenance eliminates spiders from your home and aids in keeping unsightly cobwebs from forming.

The mosquito is a vector for multiple diseases that can be terribly harmful to people. And if that wasn’t enough, a mosquito bite can be a major annoyance. Arizona mosquito pressure has been noticeably increasing over the last 15 years, making our outdoor time a little less enjoyable. While it is difficult to pinpoint exactly why its happening, we have developed methods to adapt to these changing circumstances. Here’s a little tip for homeowners: make sure there is no standing water in your yard including wheelbarrows, children’s toys, or even bottle caps that can collect water.

Surface applications, standing water treatment, and fogging are just some of the tools we utilize to knock down mosquito populations for our customers.

    ✔ Initial Estimate

Our knowledgeable and experienced staff will assess the property you need treated to determine the best approach. There are many factors to consider such as the type of weeds present, what plants are established in the yard, future plans associated with the space, and overall customer expectation. A plan is tailored to your specific property and the final estimate is generated.

    ✔ Initial Treatment

The property you need treated will be tended to by one of our extensively trained technicians. We apply the pre-emergent (which prevents seeds from taking root) and post-emergent (which kills current weeds) at the same service; this is the most common treatment. Moving forward with your custom lawn weed control plan, we will determine what (if any) weeds become resistant to post-emergent products. which we will address after the initial appointment.

    ✔ Satisfaction Guaranteed

Should your yard be overgrown with weeds, we may need an additional visit to knock down the activity. This will be made clear upon our first onsite assessment. Our thirty day follow-up is included in the first service and we guarantee that you will be satisfied with the results. We provide a 6-month service warranty on all full yard pre-emergent treatments and if after that 6 months you are completely unsatisfied, we will make it right or we will provide you with a refund for the service.

    ✔ Followup Treatment

After our initial pre-emergent application, we will conduct a thirty day follow-up to assess the success of the service. At this visit, we will be able to determine if there is any resistant weed or if there are any areas that are designated special circumstances and must be approached with a more tailored application.

If you have been living in Arizona for a while, then you are aware of the headache subterranean termites can cause Valley homeowners.

US homeowners spend billions of dollars annually on mitigation and repairs due to termite damage. Fortunately, this pest issue can be solved with well-trained technicians and industry leading products. There are different methods and products available to correct any termite activity on your home. Give us a call for your free inspection today because great service begins with a great inspection.

Subterranean termites are so common in Arizona, lenders require termite pre-treatment prior to the slabs of new homes being poured. This method addresses every square foot of soil beneath the slab and the soil behind applicable retaining walls. Arizona requires a 36-month service warranty on these pre-treats.

Even if we weren’t your pre-treat company, give us a call to explore our termite service warranty options!

Stinging insects is cause for concern
when they establish themselves in or around our homes.

Honeybees will readily exploit a breach in your home’s envelope to begin building honeycomb. This often happens when exposed timber at the eaves begins to shift due to the dry desert climate, at poorly sealed eave blocking, even at the foot of the exterior wall where there may be direct access to the wall void. We have seen many different circumstances, but we have also solved many bee issues for our customers.

If the bees can be removed safely and relocated, we will always entertain that option. However, for bees that have established a colony within the attic or wall of a home, we often need to exercise whatever option solves the issue safely and with expediency. Our first duty is to our customer and the wellbeing of his/her home.

Not all wasps need a void with the protection bees do. In the Valley, one of our most common invaders is the paper wasp. You’ll know them from the paper nests they build in our recessed lights, hanging at the patio ceiling, or beneath the eaves of the home. Left untreated, these nests can house dozens of unfriendly wasps. One attribute of the wasp that makes them particularly nasty is the ability to repeatedly sting (unlike the honeybees one and done).

Please do not address honeybees or wasps without the proper personal protective equipment. We are available on short notice to solve these issues. Allow us to arrive prepared to do what we do best.

Fighting for the top spot of the most feared pest in Arizona, the scorpion creates a lot of stress for residents in the Valley.

It is a creature hundreds of millions of years in development, resulting in a robust pest that can at times be difficult to control. Ever resilient, a bark scorpion can live within the walls of your home for months without food or water under proper conditions. Once on the move, they readily climb your walls and ceilings.

Cummings has the tools to prevent scorpion pressure. Years of experience and product usage have given us the upper hand in the battle against the scorpion. We consider not only products designed to retire scorpions, but also mechanical barriers that prevent them from entering your home. It is important to entertain several methods of control when addressing scorpions, because we know that even one scorpion is too many.

Scorpion stings are not often medically pertinent, but its effect on young children, elderly persons, or highly sensitive individuals may be emphasized. Please visit these links should you desire more information on stings:

We offer services designed to repel snakes from any given area.

After an inspection, we will work with the homeowner to create an environment not accommodating to rattlesnakes. Snakes will travel to where there are resources, be it food or shelter. Often, a rodent management program and appropriate yard maintenance aids in discouraging unwanted snake activity. We are ready to implement measures to help build a comfortable and safe environment for our customers.

Mice and Rats are arguably the most significant structurally invasive rodents in the order Rodentia.

Identified as commensal, these rodents’ habitat overlaps with humans. This can be problematic as these rodents are linked to about 55 different diseases including Viruses, bacteria, parasitic worms, etc. (Corrigan 2001). Some of these diseases are spread through bites, others through urine and fecal matter that is left in the pathways they travel.

Rodents chew continuously through the day, working to gain access through most materials that otherwise may be a barrier to entry to our homes and offices. They can also cause considerable damage to electrical systems and utility pipes after gaining access to attics and crawlspaces. Rats gnaw with such determination they can negatively affect the structural integrity of building timber.

Cummings has programs suited to address rodent issues, designed to keep your home and office safe and free from dangerous pathogens.

Rodents are our most formidable structural adversary, our customers demand a company with the tools and experience to meet this challenge

To be fair, bats are an ally when wanting to fight mosquito pressure and other flying insects that may harm agriculture.

Further, bats are important pollinators of plants and crops. So we are not generally aiming to eliminate bats, but we do want to prevent them from inhabiting areas in which we live and work.

We tend not to worry about being bitten by bats and the chance a bat is carrying rabies is extremely low. However, bat droppings can carry disease and make quite a mess. We have a lot of stucco here in Arizona, and that stucco can be stained by the highly acidic nature of bat excrement. Bat droppings can also accumulate beneath areas where they perch making a mess on our patios that can be mistaken for rodent droppings.

Contact us to discuss options in preventing bats from taking up residence on your home or office.

Arizona has more species of ants than any other state in the U.S.

Our environment in the Valley encourages a tremendous amount of ant activity from carpenter ants to harvester ants. Depending on their colony cycle and time of year, ants change their food cravings and behavior. This means that even commonly encountered ants can prove challenging to control.

Knowing what products to use, how to use them, and what changes in the immediate environment are necessary to prevent ants from making their way into your home and ruining your time at the pool can only be achieved with knowledge and experience.

We’ve gone the distance to provide you with both!
